Introduction

Can you believe 2025 is already halfway over? Even though the first half is behind us, there’s still plenty of time left to share hope, inspiration, and kindness with the people around us—especially when they need it most.

This DIY 2025 banner is part of an annual New Year’s Eve tradition I started several years ago. It always brings a sense of renewal and purpose to our space.

The 2025 version includes a special twist: we chose to highlight a word of the year.

This simple printable is easy to put together with some basic supplies. It is perfect for families, classrooms, or anyone looking for something fun to do while you wait for the ball to drop on NYE.

The Backstory

Part of my annual tradition was watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. When my kids were very young, I wanted them to feel included in the New Year’s Eve celebration at home but they were always asleep by the the time “the ball” dropped in Times Square.

So, I designed several fun activities they could participate in including a countdown at noon instead of midnight. One of those activities was this easy DIY printable banner. We spent time coloring the pages together – or separately if they wanted their design to be a surprise.

Supplies Needed for Your DIY 2025 Banner

You only need a few things to get started:

  • Paper – multi-purpose printer paper or cardstock. This is the paper I use for my banners and other projects.
  • Crayons, markers, or any coloring pencils or other tools you prefer.
  • Tape to connect the pages and hang the banner. This sturdy tape brand is my favorite.

Optional: Get creative with glitter, stickers, or anything else that inspires you—but this craft can be as simple and stress-free as you want. The main goal is to have fun and enjoy quality time with your family.

How to Make Your Hope Banner

  1. Download and print the free PDF file below. It includes individual pages for each letter and number in the banner.
  2. Color and decorate the pages however you like. This is a great time to reflect on your word of the year or discuss what hope means with your family.
  3. Tape the pages together vertically as shown below OR, if you prefer, you can tape them horizontally instead. Then, tape the full banner to a door, wall, window, or wherever you will see it daily. Ours is on a bedroom door.

Pro Tip: Flip the pages over and line them up before taping them together. Your banner will look better with the tape hiding in the back!

That’s it! No hole punches or string needed—unless you want to get extra creative.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes the simplest things can have the biggest impact. A shared moment coloring. A word that keeps us grounded. A message taped to the wall that reminds us to keep going.

I hope this little project brings you as much joy as it brings us each year. If you decide to make your own, I’d love to see it—tag me on social or share in the comments below.
